Robert E. Allen
Construction Law and Litigation
Complex Civil Litigation
Insurance Defense Litigation
Originally from Kentucky, Robert graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1995. Upon finishing law school, he practiced law with a reputable insurance defense firm in Kentucky until moving to the Asheville area in 1997. After sitting for the North Carolina Bar, he was hired by one of the larger Asheville firms where he practiced with Ike, Beth, and Steve, and developed skills and experience handling complex construction lawsuits. Robert rejoined Ike, Beth, and Steve as Northup McConnell & Sizemore, PLLC, in 2005.
Since he became licensed to practice law in 1995, Robert’s practice has consisted primarily of civil litigation. He has handled hundreds of cases, from the very simple personal injury case to complex construction cases where a single case might encompass dozens of parties, claims, and issues, and in at least one case, thousands of alleged building code violations. While his background is primarily as an insurance defense attorney and construction lawyer, his litigation experience is broad, and includes cases involving such matters as automobile accidents, general liability, insurance coverage, contract and business litigation, professional liability, trucking defense, and construction defect litigation.
Since joining Northup McConnell & Sizemore, Robert has concentrated his practice on construction law. This work involves contract review and preparation, contract litigation, representation of parties in pay disputes, lien preparation and defense, construction defect litigation, and representation of parties in a myriad of other construction related matters. Most of his clients are owners, contractors and construction professionals, however, he also works for insurance companies. Robert also continues to handle select civil litigation matters and insurance defense lawsuits, and is approved counsel for a number of insurance companies and corporations. He is certified with the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission to mediate North Carolina Superior Court Civil lawsuits.
Robert holds a commercial pilot's license and is a former certified flight instructor and instrument instructor.
