A native of Asheville, Ike returned home to practice law in 1981. A graduate of the University of North Carolina undergraduate and law schools, Ike clerked at the North Carolina Supreme Court in Raleigh for the year following his admission to the bar. His practice in Asheville began with a concentration on Workers' Compensation claims and transitioned into jury trials.

Over the last twenty years Ike has tried dozens of cases to jury verdict. Representing both plaintiffs and defendants, those cases have involved a wide range of claims, including catastrophic personal injury, stealing of business secrets, arson, violations of covenants, real property claims, business interruption claims and breach of contract. Those cases have been tried in both federal and state court and have been trials which occurred in every county west of Charlotte. Short of trial, Ike has also participated in countless mediations where claims have sometimes been resolved, at least in part, because of his proven track record in jury trials.

Professionally, Ike has been on the Board of Directors of the NC Association of Defense Attorneys and is an emeritus member, having served for seven years, of the NC Board of Law Examiners. He is a member of the Defense Reasearch Institute and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has spoken numerous times on both the practical and the intellectual aspects of trial work.

In his time away from work, Ike is part owner of a motorcycle shop and spends as much time as possible outdoors with his children as they fish, camp, boat and scuba dive.
